pickup trucks from the first one to the present day. I thought , what a nice idea. I thought that I might try something similar with some of the car pictures I have collected. I have been collecting pictures of Studebakers, Packards Nash, Hudson and Jeeps for some time now and I first wrote a web page on the Studebaker. Then one on Jeeps and Packard followed. Now I thought I would try a web page on the Nash and Hudson. I have since added a page on old Pickup Trucks , Hudson. Essex and Terrplanes of Australia , Volkswagen, Kaiser and Henry J and now I with the help of one of my visitors have written on on the Crosley These pictures came for a number of sources including web pages of the manufacture, news groups and my own. Since most of these pictures came from news groups there may be a chance that your car is shown here. I would like to invite any one
that has a favorite

A Brief History of American Motors
| American Motors was in the beginning
stages back in 1878 when Thomas B. Jeffrey built and sold Rambler bicycles
in Chicago. He was the first of the three key players of the companies
that created American Motors in 1954.
The other two were Charles Nash and Joseph L. Hudson. Charles Nash started Nash Motors
in 1916
Thomas B. Jeffrey built and sold
Rambler bicycles in Chicago from 1878 to 1900. He was one of America's
first men interested in automobiles in the late 19th century, and in 1897,
he built himself a motorcar.
The Hudson Motor Car Company,
founded in 1909 and building its first cars in 1910, when Joseph L. Hudson
and seven business associates began producing a motorcar called the Hudson.
During the Second World War both
Nash and Hudson were busy in the nation's defense effort. It wasn't until
1948 and 1949 that Hudson and Nash brought out new designs. Hudson's famous
"step-down" unibody and big-bore Six made their appearance in 1948. Nash
brought out its "Airflyte" models the next year.
The names Hudson and Nash finally
disappeared in 1957.
In the very early sixties, AMC
started having its cars assembled in foreign plants - New Zealand and Australia,
the Middle East, South America, Mexico, South Africa and Belgium all had
AMC-assembling plants, and the Taiwanese Police were even outfitted with
Ramblers.

Before you begin I want to mention that I have
been told that some
of the pictures on my pages aren't loading
properly.
If this should happen to you just right click
on the area where
the picture is supposed to be and select "Show

I have been told by the support team of my
hosting service that this problem
is a fault of MSIE and that we will have to
live with it.

A story of a Hudson Survivor
1937 Hudson Straight 8

Here it is, my 1937 Hudson Straight 8 In 1987, I was on a hunting trip near my hometown of Corryong in NE Victoria, when I discovered this vehicle among an eclectic mix of wrecks in varying degrees of decay and vandalism on an old farm. She looked forlorn but unscathed, except for missing rear window, all rubber seals, no floor, rust throughout, a completely concave roof (which I was later told this was from carting hay bales), smashed in RH mudguard (came off second best in a collision with a Black Angus Bull), all the windows were down and the seats were growing things local to the area, and this all fertilized and cared for by a prodigious colony of rats. I approached the owner, a laconic Yugoslav named Bish who said “Take it, it’s been there for 25 years, I don’t want it…first the motor she bugger up, then the gear box it buggered. I fix the bloody gear box then the diff it buggers up, I fix the bloody diff then the bloody crank shaft it busts, no mate you can have the bugger for all I care.” I borrowed a car trailer and took the old thing to my uncle’s where it sat in the corner of the machinery shed for the next 14years. 1998 - enter Kevin Hickling, classic car show Burwood, Sydney, driving
up the long avenue of trees to the central park at the wheel of a magnificent
white 1937 Hudson 8 Deluxe. It was the first time I had ever seen a ‘live’
one. He was a very busy man, but somehow I convinced him to help me restore
my car, and in 2001 I trailered it to Taree where he went over it from
stem to stern, inside to outside and gave me an encyclopaedia’s worth of
advice. This translated into five years of hard work and a million phone
calls. The result of patience and optimism and a love of Hudson’s have
put one more survivor on the road.

"This photo dates from about 1930. My
Father ran a hire car with a 1926 Nash taking people (usually American
tourists) to the countryside around Sydney (Australia) and along the coast.
He also transported money (with security guards) from bank to bank and
payrol. This car served the same purpose

| This car is owned by Garrie Hisco, South Australia
He had the following to say about the car. "A waiter friend I had not seen for twenty years overheard two women discussing the pile of junk that woman one was considering divorcing her husband over!!!!!!!!! It seems he had collected car parts but never did anything with them . As an ESSEX owner of some 30 years I am known in this area. He interrupted their discussion and said that he knew a man who would take the parts, maybe. I receive an email from him , and days later , I took possession of a totally original 1927 ESSEX SPEEDSTER with just 42000 miles. It is totally untouched ( ever! ) , and complete . I have it in my garage. I do not know what I will do with it as I am too busy to restore another car." |

They have owned the car since September 2006. It has an all original steel body, and everything on her is original except for the headlights. She has suicide doors, a 4 inch chopped roof, a rebuilt 350 Chevy engine, and a tubbed rear. No rumble seat. |

In the US we would call it a phaeton but it was one of six bodied by Ruskin in Melbourne Australia. It was brought into the by Wayne Graefen. Jim Fritts, current owner, had it restored. It is for sale! |
