| After World War II North America car manufactures
struggled with a design for their cars that would change the thinking of
the buying public.
Chevrolet got it right in 1955. That was a year of dramatic changes in body design at Chevrolet and to make this new design more expectable to the buying public the legendary small block V 8 was introduced. This engine was to become the most famous Chevrolet engine of all times. In 1955 there were versions rated at from 162 to 180 hp using an optional 4 barrel carb and dual exhaust. The 1955 styling set sales records for the next 3 years. At this time the Bel Air Nomad was also introduced and the look and use of the station wagon was changed forever. In 1957 fuel injection was introduced and the age of the mussel car was upon us. It's my opinion that these three model years produced the best looking Chevy's of all time and did more to change the way North America looked at the automobile then any other car. They were modern, they were fresh, they were clean and they were CHEVROLETS. |
