pickup trucks from the first one to the present day. I thought , what a nice idea. I thought that I might try something similar with some of the car pictures I have collected. I have been collecting pictures of Studebakers, Packards and Jeeps for some time now and I first wrote a web page on the Studebaker. Then one on Jeeps, American Motors, Pickup Trucks and Volkswagen followed. Next I thought I would try a web page on the Kaiser and Henry J. These pictures came for a number
of sources including web pages of the manufacture,
I would like to invite any one that
has a favorite Henry J picture or a Web Page

In 1945 California industrialist Henry J. Kaiser
partnered with automobile executive Joe Frazer to respond to the American
consumer's postwar demand for cars, mounting the last real American challenge
to Detroit's Big Three automakers.

| The Henry J was introduced at a Chicago showing
in February 1950 but it was not put on sale until September 1950
as a 1951 model. The price for the car was $1299. The reason for this price was that the car was built using government funding from the Reconstruction Finance Corp. Part of the agreement was that the car would sell for $1300 This price as achieved by stripping the car of a lot of features that were considered standard equipment such as a trunk lid and glove box. Approximately 115,000 Henry Js were produced
for the models years 1951, 1954

A Very Special Henry J, A 1952
Henry J Convertible
This car was just sold on ebay
and I am trying to contact the new owner.
If anyone can help please e
mail me
| This 1952 Henry J was built by the Kaiser Frazer Corporation. The only other convertible Henry J like it was a prototype car that the factory built to showcase at the auto shows back in the early 1950's. The prototype was then destroyed. This car was purchased by the seller on eBay from the first owner who saw the prototype 1952 Henry J convertible at an auto show that Kaiser Frazer Corporation attended. At least 30 years ago and he decided to make one based on the detailed pictures of the prototype that he had taken at that auto show. |
To view another convertible that was built
in a similar fashion look at
Eric Godon's convertible which is headlined
at the start of this page
| The following Henry J convertible pictures were submitted by Ryan
Steffey, Naples, Florida and the belongs to his father Robert Steffery
who bought the car in 1973. It is a 1955 prototype built for the Detroit
auto show but the car was never produced since the Henry J ceased production
at the end of 1954. He started the rebuild and now Ryan plans on finishing
the project. This car's serial number (Body Number)is #1 as seen
on the name plate shown below.
Ryan knows of only three of these cars being built and this one is the only one remaining. |

following to say about them. "Enclosed are pictures of a 1951 Henry J that
I recently bought. The car has been stored for 16 years in a garage.
Three of those years it was outside and exposed to the weather. The
car is oxide and has some surface rust. The windows had ben left down and
got the floors rusty. There is some rust holes mostly rust that can be
cleaned. The body has no pinholes from rust. It is a six cylinder, no trunk.
I started cleaning the chrome and it is in good shape. I am thinking of
selling the frame with the rollong chassis transmission and
