Fire Engines
Motorhomes and Busses

Truck are almost as old as the automobile. Once man discovered the automobile he found that it could also be used to move material from one place to another.
The first known truck was built in 1896 by the German automotive pioneer Gottlieb Daimler.
It didn't take long before American manufactures were converting their cars into trucks. The Model T being one of the most famous with it's Model TT. Other manufactures of the automobile also discovered this market.
There were also a number of independent truck manufactures both large and small.
On this web page I tried to show as many of these as possible.

I would like to invite any one that has a favorite Truck of this period to
E mail me a copy.

This picture was submitted by Len Trudel from New Zealand
The picture was found at his mother's house and marked
Grampa's Truck. It was at first thought to be a 1930 Hudson but we have since determined that it is something different.
I was wondering if any of my visitors know what this truck is

Greg Hayden, Vista, CA, USA submitted the following series of old trucks.
The year of some is not know but they are still interesting viewing.

Dave Denny pic of the Campo Museum guys there to pick up three unremarkable pickups we donated to them. That is their flat bed, interesting loading scheme. Those truck boys did that all the time. They are black and white since Dave bumped something on his camera but did not notice. This picture and the next are like only a few minutes apart. The white stuff on the ground is white cotton wood blooms shaken off those trees by overnight wind

These pictures were submitted by Greg Hayden, Vista, CA, and were
taken at the Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum, 2005, Parade

In the 1930's Henry Ford got involved with the Feds to use diesel engines in his Tri-Motor. The Feds figured bombers. There was a guy named Guiberson who had been experimenting with radial aircraft engines since the 1920's. This is the result.
Apparently the reason they did not use them for aircraft was (1) they SMOKED heavily when called upon to work and (2) within that smoke was black oil that quickly covered the cockpit windows and streamed down both sides shuttering the passengers windows and covering the fuselage with this black gunk.
If you look on line you will find all kinds of other reasons given, but I am going to go with this one.
But all was not lost. Literally thousands of WW II tanks had one of these engines and literally thousands of Troop Landing Craft had the same engine. The ONLY difference really between them were the letters ahead of the 1020. T for tanks and BuShip for Landing Craft.
