John's Old TRUCKS and
Motor Home Pictures
from 1910 to 1979

A number of years ago I saw a one page calendar that showed all the Ford
pickup trucks from the first one to the present day. I thought , what a nice idea.
I thought that I might try something similar with some of the car pictures I have collected.
I have been collecting pictures of Studebaker, Packard Nash,
Hudson, Jeeps and pickup trucks for some time now and I first wrote a web
page on the Studebaker.
Then one on Jeeps , Packard and the Hudson and Nash  followed.
Next came the Kieser and Henry J.
Now I with the help of one of my visitors have written on on the Crosley
Now I thought I would try a web page on the Pickup Trucks
of the 1940's to the 1960's.
I also included some panel trucks and early SUV's of this period.
They just seemed to fit right in with the pickups.

These pictures came for a number of sources including
web pages of the manufacture, news groups and my own.
Since most of these pictures came from news groups there may
be a chance that your car is shown here.

I would like to invite any one that has a favorite Truck of
this period to E mail me a copy.

A Brief History on the Truck

Truck are almost as old as the automobile. Once man discovered the automobile he found that it could also be used to move material from one place to another.
The first known truck was built in 1896 by the German automotive pioneer Gottlieb Daimler.
It didn't take long before American manfactures were converting thier cars into trucks. The Model T being one of the most famous with it's Model TT. Other manfactures of the automobile also discovered this market. There were also a number of independent truck manfactures both large and small.
On this web page I tried to show as many of these as possible.

Popeye, a 1930 Ford Model AA was originally a gasoline truck, then a fruit and vegetable vender (central California area). The truck is now an advertising vehicle for the Coronado Brewing Company and Tent City Restaurant in Coronado, California, active in numerous parades and car shows in the area.

Roger Describes his truck.
"My truck is a 1931 Chevy 1 1/2 ton Dually commercial truck (157" wheel base). I am only preserving it as I have no intention of painting it. It has taken 79 years to get it to look this good. Just a little back ground for you, these pictures. They where taken the day I found it, the  box you see is a 12 foot grain box as this was a working truck in the prairies. It runs and drives beautifully, it features the 194 cubic inch Chevy six engine (original to this truck).
The engine block in this truck was cast in 1929 and has overhead valve technology that ordinary did not come out with until many years later. When I went to bring it home all we had to do was put a new battery in it and fresh gas, it started right up and I drove it onto the flat deck and brought it home. I do have some original newspaper advertisements from 1931 for this particular truck.

1934 Ford BB Dump Truck
1934 Ford BB Dump Truck
This truck is owned by Walt Fitzgerald.
Walt had the following to say about his truck.
"Truck is a '34BB dump with a Gar Wood. Hydraulic lift and
body. Ford used various mechanical dump bodies prior to
'34 and switched exclusively to the Gar Wood hydraulic, in '34.
Truck lacks correct '34 radiator and hood side trim so front
end is '33.
The proper grill is very hard to find. I like the cleaner
look of the '33 front end but of course it is not correct. Engine
is a later flathead, stroked 289, dual point crab claw distributor, Holly four barrel which works well in pushing its weight thru its "flat land" rear which was an option for '34. This combination
gets you and the load there in a hurry. But beware of those mechanical brakes."

This truck is owed by Al, Casco, ME USA
and is a work in progress.
The pictures were submitted by Susan Casco and
she had the following to say about the truck that they
call "Ben" "Benny is one of those "thumbs-up" rides.
Al and Benny don't go far.  Home Depot is the preferred destination.  Even when the snow is up to the running
boards, Benny will go.  Benny is now 4-wd.  It's a '94 Jeep suspension -- tranny and transfer case were changed too.
My favorite feature is the crank-out windshield.
Yes, Benny is a work in progress.  I would really like a
wiper on my side and some tunes would be nice too."
