The Austin


The true British Sports car was first introduced in the early part of the 20th century. For the time being this site is going to be interested in only the MG, Triumph and Austin. These were the first low priced sports cars to arrive 
on the shores of North America. 
In 1928 Lord Nuffield, with the help of his managing director Cecil Kimbeirst, built the MG marquee to become well known as the "everyday man's sports car". On June 19th, 1936 the MG Car Company announced to the world its T-type. It was the first of a new series of MG's that would last into the 1950's.
The The Austin Motor Company was  founded in 1905, merged in 1952 with the Nuffield Organization (parent company of Morris MG or Morris Garage) into the British Motor Corporation Ltd. charge. Austin was the dominant partner and its engines were adopted for most of the cars.
Also in 1952, Austin made a deal with Donald Healey, the renowned automotive engineer. It led to a new marquee, Austin-Healey, and a range of sports cars. BMC was well underway to service the North American's hugh appetite 
for these small, well handling and fairly fast for the day cars.
That left The Triumph Motor Company to be the third model to hit these shores. To be sure there were other like the Jaguar and Aston Martin but they weren't cars for the everyday man or women.
The Triumph Motor Company started life as a bicycle manufacture in Coventry England in 1897 and in 1902 it began producing Triumph motor cycles and operating as The Triumph Cycle Company.
In the 1930's the name was changed to The Triumph Motor Company.
In 1939, the Triumph Motor Company went into receivership and the factory, equipment was offered for sale. It was purchased but never got into production. It was completely destroyed by bombing during 1940.
In 1944 The Standard Motor Company bought what was left of The Triumph Motor Company. 
In 1946 a new range of Triumphs starting when the Triumph Roadster was announced. Because of steel shortages these were bodied with aluminum which was plentiful because of its use for aircraft production. 
During the early 1950s it was decided to use the Triumph name for sporting cars and the Standard name for saloons and during 1953 the Triumph TR2 was initiated, the first of a series that would be produced until 1981.
Now we have our three main players in the North American market and the public was delighted.
WWII was over and there was money to spend and good times to be had.
What you are going to see below is some of these early sports cars as well as some that were the last cars produced by there three auto makers.

"Last year while we were hosting at Lake Sammamish State Park in Issaquah, Washington we went to a car show at the XXX Root Beer drive-in restuarant ( a few miles away. They have car shows all the time there and this time it was British cars.
Here are pics of  two 1959 Austin Healeys both owned by a husband and wife (hers is the cream colored one). These two cars beauties throughout. The owner let my wife and I sit in his red one as seen in photos."
