After WW
II collecting old cars became a passion of many people.
The economy was booming and people had the extra money needed for this hobby. They were tired of poor times and the war. They wanted to do something to express themselves. This collecting also became a way of keeping the history of the automobile alive. However there was group that didn't want just any old collectable car. They wanted something special that no one else had. The KUSTOM CAR was born. Through the late 40's, 50's 60's 70's and up to today many of these custom cars were made. Some of these cars are only slightly modified while others went to the extreme but all offer a different look at automotive history. Let's not mistake these with the Hot Rod of that era. They were similar in some ways but a lot different in others ways. All hot rods were kustoms but not all kustoms were hot rods. I am starting this picture collection with Kustom Cars that were built in the 1940's, 1950's and 60's. These include pictures of cars customized by people like Barris Brothers (Sam and George Barris), Larry Watson and Bill Cushenbury. These are some of the big name but many of these cars were built in small shops all over North America. I hope that you will enjoy these pictures as much as I did working on this site. |

Don Clark sent me this request. He is trying to find
a picture of the car mentioned below.
I am looking for pictures of olds custom. I remember it was called Green Monster. All I remember about the motor was it had 2 4s fuel injected progressive linkage, dual Mallory ignition. It had a Lasalle transition all custom was lead oh yes it was lowered, a lot. I was a kid and my neighbor was drafted for Nom, I never saw him again. He gave it to me to hold for him, my dad got ticked at me one day and sent it to the junk yard. If you could help I would appreciate it. I have to tell my kids about it and they just laugh. Thank you Don I am now 70 so it's been awhile |

Yes there are still a few of these 50's Kustoms around today. This
1951 Chevy is true survivor of those by-gone years. It has a small
block Chey engine and an Olds grill. The rear has some 1950 Ford tail lights
and a Cadillac bumper. The roof has also been lowered 4 inches.
The car is owned by Fraser Hood, Windsor Nova Scotia, Canada |
